U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued two people and a dog after their catamaran went down near St. Simons Sound in Georgia.
According to a series of tweets from the Coast Guard on Tuesday, the two people and the dog, Reggie, are safe and “in good spirits” after they were saved by the crews who were alerted by a Personal Locator Beacon on board the sinking craft, Pisces.
“If you own a boat, the USCG highly recommends this equipment,” USCG Flight Mechanic Tyler Murray said.
The search and rescue mission began after the boaters called in a “Mayday” on VHF marine radio and crews from USCG posts in Tybee Island and Savannah, along with the Department of Natural Resources took to air and sea to come to the rescue.
The two people and Reggie were taken to Hunter Air Field where they were reported to be safe.
