ROSAMOND, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — An injured hiker who was left stranded was rescued by Kern County Sheriff’s Office personnel after the hiker activated a distress signal northwest of Rosamond last month.

On June 30, 2025, a hiker activated a distress signal after they became stranded on the Pacitif Coast Trail near Rosamond. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office received notification from Cal OES at approximately 8:15 p.m. regarding the emergency beacon, which originated northwest of Rosamond.

Kern County Search and Rescue, with assistance from the KCSO helicopter, Air 1, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Air 1 found the hiker, who was unable to return to the trail due to an ankle injury and unstable, loose rock.

The helicopter successfully landed, and the air crew assisted the injured hiker into the aircraft. The hiker was then transported to the Search and Rescue command post for medical evaluation.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office reminded outdoor enthusiasts to “carry emergency communication devices, remain aware of trail conditions, and avoid hazardous terrain when possible.”
