
Marine rescue at Burrum Heads

Four people were rescued this morning after their boat became fully submerged near the mouth of the Burrum River.

Water Police were called at approximately 9.45am following reports a vessel was taking on water.
An EPIRB was activated, and an emergency broadcast was made via marine radio.
A nearby fisherman responded to the call, and was able to locate the missing boaties.
Four people were pulled to safety.
Water Police arrived a short time later to assist the group, a 52-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man, a 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, all from Burrum Heads.
No-one was physically injured.
Water Police are urging boaties to ensure they have the appropriate safety equipment onboard, prior to venturing out these school holidays.
