Two people have been airlifted from Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park after strong winds and rain overnight left them stranded.

The pair activated a personal locator beacon near the Tasman Glacier at 8.55am on Friday.

A spokesperson for the Maritime NZ rescue coordination centre said they were unable to walk out due to severe weather conditions.
