A Thanksgiving day hike turned into an emergency rescue mission in Ice Cube Canyon, part of the Red Rock Canyon area near Las Vegas, when six hikers found themselves stranded after one of them sustained a leg injury. According to a post from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR), the incident occurred on Thursday, around 5 p.m.

The injured party was able to signal for help using a Garmin In Reach Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), which is a satellite-based device that allows users to send distress signals from remote locations. A helicopter, identified as AIR1, was subsequently dispatched to the scene.

SAR officers assessed the injured hiker and prepared them for extraction. AIR1 then hoisted all six hikers from the canyon to the BLM Helipad, where the injured individual was transferred to a ground ambulance for treatment.
