Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon

The crew of a Turkish-owned cargo ship has been rescued after a collision with a bulker off the coast of Iran, Turkish authorities reported on September 09, 2024.

The 13 crew members of the general cargo ship Knidos were evacuated on a life raft before being taken aboard the Nadeen, a larger vessel involved in the collision.

The incident occurred just after midnight when a distress signal was received from the Knidos vessel’s Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) system.

The Turkish General Directorate of Maritime Affairs (DSGM) coordinated with rescue centres in Ankara and Bandar Abbas to safely rescue the crew members.

The Knidos, managed by Elkenz Shipping of Istanbul, was heading from Dammam Port in Saudi Arabia to Mina Saqr Port in the UAE when it collided with the Nadeen, a 28,396 dwt bulker arriving from India.
