A warning has been issued for bushwalkers after two men were rescued almost 10 hours on from activating their personal locator beacon.
The men activated a personal locator beacon and sent a satellite text to a friend notifying the USCG of their location and type of distress.
The man had a personal locator beacon to notify Coast Guard watch standers that he was in distress.
After the accident, the hiker activated a personal locator beacon (PLB) to alert rescuers. The U.S. Navy search and rescue team rescued the hiker.
Coast Guard Sector watchstanders received an 406 Emergency Positioning Radio Beacon signal alerting of a possible distress.
Whilst making way information was received that a total of three PLBs had been activated relating to a group of seven sea kayakers.
Luckily, the men were able to set off their EPIRB which alerted the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
The group decided to use their PLB, and the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate.
In the second incident, police were alerted to a personal locator beacon activation near the summit of the mountain.
